Improvisation with Seke Chimutengwende

Sat 28 May & Sun 29 May | 10.00 – 16.00

In this workshop led by Seke Chimutengwende we will look at different ways of generating movement material and relating it to other people in the space. You will be given the opportunity to make your own decisions in the moment, and will be encouraged to follow your own interests within given parameters. The aim of the class is to develop a sense of authorship and to enable a greater understanding of one’s own practice.

Flying Low and Passing Through

Flying Low and Passing Through led by Luca Braccia

Sat 9 July & Sun 10 July | 10.00 – 16.00

The workshop led by Luca Braccia will focus on David Zambrano’s Flying-Low technique and Passing Through system. We will spiral, run, slide, and sing to pass through the floor and other bodies by playing with speed and energy! In the morning, you will be introduced to the basic principles (‘gathering and sending’) by practising sequences of set material with different pathways. In the afternoon, you will explore instant-composition rules and group improvisation. Peer work will encourage collaboration and analysis, and the session will include reflections on Zambrano’s philosophy.

Gaga Dancers

Gaga Dancers led by Anoushka Jago

Sat 6 August & Sun 7 August | 10.00 – 16.00

Gaga/dancers deepens dancers’ awareness of physical sensations, expands their palette of available movement options, enhances their ability to modulate their energy and engage their explosive power, and enriches their movement quality with a wide range of textures. The classes are built on the same principles as Gaga/people classes but also employ the specific vocabulary and skills that are part and parcel of a dancer’s knowledge. The layering of familiar skills with Gaga tasks presents dancers with fresh challenges, and throughout the class, teachers prompt the dancers to visit more unfamiliar places and ways of moving as well, unlocking the endlessness of possibilities. Dancers are guided to connect their effort to pleasure and to discover the virtue of silliness. We will explore these principles in a variety of formats.
