Rudolf Laban's radical choreographic output for his company, the Kammertanzbühne Laban, consisted in an abundance of solos and duos designed the provide the regular audiences of 1924 with a rich and startling experience. These short, pithy pieces inspire laughter, awe, shock, delight, curiosity and more. Seven are presented here:
Mondäne - a solo for a celebrity
Krystall - a duo delighting in line
Marotte - a solo for a demented man
Orchidée - a solo for an exotic woman
Ekstatische - a duo for two priestly figures
Rosetten - a solo for a flirtatious woman
Bizarre - a comedy for two competitive men.
Dr. Valerie Preston-Dunlop, renowned authority on Rudolf-Laban's life and work, has researched and recreated these unique works, with dancers from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, assisted by Alison Curtis-Jones and musician Robert Coleridge. She introduces each dance, describing their content and the process of their recreation.
